Ferguson 2 Cuba 2 LA: Thawing Relations and Opportunities For Joint Struggle Organizing

Since 1961, the U.S. has attempted to weaken and distance the Cuban government and culture through economic sanctions, travel ban, and subversive acts of terrorism.

Despite this Cuba has bravely crafted and defended a society that boasts universal health care, an entirely state-operated education system, considerably low infant and maternal mortality rates, and remarkably high life expectancies.

Historically, Cuba has made monumental contributions to the movements for African liberation, played a leading role in battling Ebola in West Africa, stood in solidarity with Palestinians against Israeli occupation, and granted political asylum to over 80 individuals fleeing U.S. prosecution.

Join CODEPINK for a panel discussion on thawing relations with Cuba, a report-back from our Peace Delegation to Cuba, and a discussion of solidarity movements for racial and social justice featuring: CODEPINK anti-war activist, Col. Ann Wright; Kwazi Nkrumah, long-time LA Activist and Organizer of the MLK Coalition; Sophia Armen, CODEPINK BDS and Demilitarize Campaigner; Moderated by CODEPINK Co-Founder, Jodie Evans.
